The west coast is the only place in the country with the average home price exceeding Area Median Income? This makes it default that MOST people here can’t access home ownership. This is a big factor in “the rich getting richer and the poor getting poorer” since we’re in a period of time that those able to “buy in” are declining year after year. BUT if more people can access ownership, we can nourish the Middle Class with options that keep families and communities sustainable.
There’s hope! Legislation, funding, and creativity are falling into place for housing to look differently than we’ve ever envisioned before.
