Home Scouts Class (May 5) Plant infusions (water, oil, tincture), food, tonics, topicals
Plant infusions (water, oil, tincture), food, tonics, topicals
@ The Duvall Food Forest
26524 NE Cherry Valley Rd. Duvall, WA 98019
This class is all about plants! Plant preparations in the kitchen come in many forms - from short term food to long term medicine. We will harvest and get hands-on with plants from the Food Forest, as well as other plants from the area. Sarah the Herbalist will also demonstrate and share how to make tea, overnight infusions, tinctures, uses for vinegar infusions, dressing, switchel, linaments, bath soak, household cleaners, and more!
Bring your questions and a small jar to take home your own infusion: a half pint jar to take home a tincture or pint jar to take home vinegar infusion. We will also answer questions like:
How can I forage ethically from the wild? When should I cultivate or wildcraft plants for personal use? Can invasive plants be turned into medicine? What’s the difference between a tea and infusion? What is the purpose of a tincture and when should I use one? How do I know if I’m allergic to a plant? What’s the difference between a toxic and poisonous plant? When should I use a plant topically vs internally?
Of course, we’ll start the workshop with an ice breaker game and introductions - bring your curiosity and your own plant stories to share!
Please bring:
A half pint jar to take home a tincture or pint jar to take home vinegar infusion
Wear clothes you don’t mind getting a little dirty
A chair or blanket to sit on (optional if you prefer the picnic tables and stumps around the firepit)
A tea cup or thermos
