Home Scouts Class (June 9) Ecology, local history, growing food, experiments

from $30.00

Ecology, local history, growing food, experiments

@ The Duvall Food Forest
26524 NE Cherry Valley Rd. Duvall, WA 98019

with special guest teacher Storm Stewart

This class is all about where YOU meet your environment! Everyone needs food, right? So we’ll explore how growing and eating food locally is good for the body, family, and local economy. Is there really food all around us in the wild? What makes the Snoqualmie Valley such a unique place for growing food? What kind of food has been grown here in the past five, ten, or fifty generations?

We’ll play games to learn about local animal migrations and how that affects the local food supply. We’ll also dive into the importance of experiments! Why is experimenting so important (and cool?!) How does experimenting with growing food help us connect to our environment to participate fully in our local ecology? How do we join the ecology around us, compared to witnessing as a bystander?

In this class, everyone will take home a native seed or sprout to experiment with at home!

About our special guest Storm:
Storm Stewart is the founder of Wilding Education, a partnership of mine as a mentor for youth programs in Seattle. Storm loves experiments and watching ecologies transform through the seasons. He’s joining us to teach an epic game and dive into all the ways experimenting helps us GROW as an individual and community!
